Jurmala Beach Day Trip

Hey, everyone! I’m back with another blog post about my latest adventure today. I went to Jurmala, a beautiful seaside village close to Riga. It started off being a really sunny and warm day, great for enjoying the beach and the Baltic Sea. Here’s how it went 🙂

Transport

I took the old train from Riga to Dubulti (got off at Dzintari), which was a nice ride. The Dzintari station is close to the main beach area – I walked along the coast for more than one hour, being surprised by the size and length of the beach.

Lunch: Jura

I got lunch at a restaurant called “Restorans Jura”. It’s a nice and cozy place, and after having dealt with some language barriers I finally got my food. After lunch, I decided to explore more of Jurmala. I walked along the beach and also visited the Dzintari Forest Park, basically a giant playground in a forest block.

The weather

As mentioned the weather was beautiful (really beautiful, around 30°) in the beginning. In the beginning….

Unfortunately, the weather changed in the afternoon. It started to rain heavily, and I got caught up in the rain – even though I had an umbrella with me. Guess the downpour was just too strong. I got pretty much soaked up and I took the (this time super-crowded) train back to Riga. I guess unexpected rain is part of the fun!

Actually, I got a further explanation from Jans about fog and rain on the coast. Huge thanks 🙂

I can tell you more: sometimes, if you have here strong northern current in the sea with the northern wind, and the weather is hot you can have super dense fog coming from the sea to the beach! Visibility drops to only 5-10 meters – I remember tourists running away as this is super creepy ????
